Neighbourhood guide
What it is like to live in Dalewood
Dalewood sits at the north end of St. Thomas, around the Dalewood Reservoir on Kettle Creek. The name covers two things: a residential area, including the larger Dalewood Meadows subdivision, and the conservation area next door. The Kettle Creek Conservation Authority runs Dalewood as its urban conservation area. The reservoir is one of the few open bodies of water inside the city, and it is ringed by about 25 hectares of provincially significant wetlands.
Daily life here leans outdoors. A looped natural surface trail circles the reservoir and wetlands, and the 2.8 km Evans Sisters’ Water Trail is set up for canoes and kayaks. In season there are fishing platforms, supervised pools and watercraft rentals. One market overview describes the area north of downtown as having a cottage country feel, with hiking, birding and water views close at hand.
It is a quieter edge of town and further from the main services than central neighbourhoods, so most trips need a car. Downtown and the hospital are roughly 10 minutes away by car. Two practical notes for buyers. The conservation area is open only from May 1 to September 30. About 200 serviced campsites, many used seasonally, bring visitors and traffic in summer. There is no commercial area in Dalewood itself.
