Neighbourhood guide
What it is like to live in Hamilton Road
Hamilton Road sits just southeast of Downtown London, along Hamilton Road between Adelaide Street and Highbury Avenue, with the rail tracks to the north and the Thames River to the south. It is an affordable, close knit east end neighbourhood with a strong community spirit. The main street mixes long running businesses, including a hardware store open for more than 100 years and London’s oldest meat market, with newer spots like a laundromat that serves local coffee and fresh meals. Carved tree trunk sculptures along the road turn a drive or a walk into an outdoor gallery.
Recreation is close by. Vauxhall Park and St. Julien Park sit on the Thames River with connections to the city’s path network, and Silverwoods Park is in the northern part of the neighbourhood. The BMO Centre, an indoor recreation facility, opened in 2011. The Crouch Branch Library and the Hamilton Road Seniors’ Community Centre serve residents of all ages. Downtown London and Victoria Hospital are each about 10 minutes away by car, and the Western Fair District and Old East Village are about a 10 minute bike ride.
There are trade offs. A cluster of industrial buildings runs along the rail tracks, and many homes are older and may need updates. The corridor has also seen public debate about supportive housing. Condos are scarce, with only a handful listed at any time in 2026. For buyers who want character, a real main street and prices below the London average, Hamilton Road is worth a close look.
